Attorney General ‘Abd al-Majīd Mahmūd jailed 156 suspects involved in the ‘Umrāniyyah incident under the accusation of seven crimes. All suspects pleaded not guilty and said they just happened to be near the event at the time. The Secretary General of the Giza Governorate said that he was surprised to find out that the Giza Archbishopric was illegally turning the facility into a church, when they had only been given a license to build a service center. He said it was then agreed with a number of bishops that those in charge would complete the required paperwork for the building of a church within two weeks, after which the building would be allowed to resume. Four of the aforementioned bishops testified that they were surprised by the riots and did not participate.
