During his lecture at the Egyptian Society for Culture and Dialogue, Islamic thinker Dr. Muhammed Salīm al-‘Awwā called upon Muslims to hold on to their Arab heritage. He argued that the Copts' severe and often brutal mistreatment during the Roman Empire led them to perceive Muslims as potential liberators from Roman oppression. They consequently supported Muslims in entering the country.

Al-‘Awwā further advanced the view that Copts were happy during the ‘Amr Ibn al-‘Āṣṣ era, since they were generally well-treated and gained access to high-ranking and politically influential positions.

Al-‘Awwā disputed the audience’s claim that ‘Amr Ibn al-‘Āṣṣ burned down the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, arguing that Muslims have never burned books, even in cases in which they directly contradicted or offended Islam.

He ended his lecture by repeating his previously articulated prompt to participate in the upcoming elections, despite of the expected electoral fraud.
