Dr. Muhammad al-Barād‘ī, former president of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that he is not opposed to a Christian woman becoming the president of Egypt.
"According to Islamic teaching, every person, Muslim or Christian, has the same rights and duties. These rights are based on equality and justice," he added.
Al-Barād‘ī also said that he rejects calling the Muslim Brotherhood a "banned" group, explaining that they are part of the community that needs to be heard and should be allowed to contribute exactly like Copts.
He talked about Egypt's position in the Arab Islamic World, saying that in the past Egypt used to have its national status, but that it has now lost such a position.
Al-Barād‘ī warned that Egypt's existence outside is very important to him and that he wants to make sure that Egypt and the Arab World are not isolated from the outside world.
According to al-Barād‘ī, foreign policies cannot be isolated from a country's internal policies.
