This article discusses the demonstration outside the Egyptian Parliament building following the shooting at Nag Hammadi. The protest was organized by the independent National Commission for Confronting Sectarian Violence. The demonstration called for equal rights for Copts throughout Egypt, and many of the Commission members were present at the rally. The entire problem, they said, is rooted in legal, security, cultural, media, and social causes, and requires a comprehensive solution. The demonstrators had a number of requests of Parliament which were brought up behind closed doors during the rally. A memorandum with a number of requests was brought up during the session. There are also issues concerning the second article in the Egyptian Constitution which state that Islam is the national religion, which many judges use to rule against Copts, and lead to a generally biased view concerning Coptic rights.
