Families, army and the police managed to control clashes erupted on May 10, 2011, between two drivers, one from Jahdam village and the other from al-'Azīyah village of Manfalūt town, Asyut governorate.

The drivers, a Copt and a Muslim, fought over who should pass first on the road linking the two villages.

The army denied that the clashes were sectarian but rather an argument between two local residents.

Residents of Jahdam had detained four of al-'Azīyah residents.
