Al-Ahrām daily of May 13, 2011 published an interview with two Christian and Muslim clerics – Anba Mūsá, the Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Youths, and Dr. Sālim ‘Abd al-Jalīl, the Undersecretary of Awqāf for Da’wah (Call) Affairs.
Bishop Mūsá said that blood resulting from fitnah ta’fīyah will never stop as long as conditions remain unthawed, adding the January 25 revolution has opened windows of hope to achieve a genuine national reconciliation between Muslims and Copts.
“The law on the construction of houses of worship resembles a life buoy to nip any sectarian crises in the bud,” said the Coptic prelate.
For his part, Dr. ‘Abd al-Jalīl, however, said the current composition of the society would not allow a law regulating the construction of houses of worship to see the light.
“The incidents of Imbābah should not be blamed only on the former National Democratic Party; there are other groups that have certain interests in those incidents,” he added.
