Muhammad 'Abd al-Qudūs, a journalist and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood group, writes in an article that an aspired modern civil state should have pillars that could be summed up in the following points:

• Total equality among all Egyptians in rights and duties. There should be no difference between a Muslim and a Christian as well as freedom of worship and occupying top posts are concerned as long as this takes place under a Muslim frame of reference.

• Genuine democracy that rests on rotation of power and a president that is elected for a tenure of no more than two terms in office for the first time in Egypt's history.

• Social justice and encouraging the private sector and honorable well-off figures.
