Dr. Ahmad al-Tayīb, Azhar's Grand Shaykh, denied issuing a fatwá of the illegitimacy of two underage women Islam as was reported in newspapers on June 27, 2011.

[Those two underage women are from al-Minia, they ran away with two Muslim men and converted to Islam according to their own will. They were then found in Cairo by the police forces, according to media reports.]

Meanwhile, the church praised the grand shaykh for this fatwá in al-Misrī al-Yawm, page 13, June 28, 2011.
