Grand Shaykh of the Azhar Dr. Ahmad al-Tayīb reviewed proposed amendments to a new law on the Azhar and reformation of a senior scholars panel to have the top post of the largest Sunni Muslim institution through election.

Dr. Tayīb, during a meeting on Sept. 12 with members of the Azhar Development Committee, also discussed ways to set up intellectual, scientific and economic committees to activate the Azhar's role in Egypt and the Muslim world.

The clerics also exchanged views on means to achieve financial and administrative independence of the Azhar.
