Kamāl Zākhir, general coordinator of the laymen Copts movement, has stressed that his support of NGOs for Coptic second marriage and divorce does not mean that he is against the Orthodox Church. He did, however, assert that the resignations from the Coptic denomination flooding in from a huge number of Copts has been a wake-up call for the church, saying they now need to properly address the problems facing Copts who are being denied civil rights and quality of life.
