The Supreme Presidential Elections Commission (SPEC) has completed the allocation of 14,000 judges in preparation for the presidential elections scheduled for the 23th and 24th of May.
The commission's head Fārūq Sultān stated that the military and police forces will secure polling stations. He stressed that they will not interfere in the election process unless the heads of polling stations ask them to do so for security reasons.
Meanwhile, a judicial source stressed that all measures to ensure successful elections have been taken. He rejected any rumors about forgery of the elections. According to the same source, the commission gave permission to 53 NGO's to monitor the elections. In addition to this, 923 foreign correspondents were approved to cover the election.
For his part, the Grand Muftī of Egypt, Dr. 'Alī Jum'ah, called on all Egyptians to use reason when voting. He also asked voters to adhere to election principles which, in his view, conform with those of the Holy Qur'ān.
