While Salafists in the constitution panel insist the new constitution must clearly indicate that the Islamic sharī’ah will be the main source of legislation, others adamantly insist that only the principles of the sharī’ah should be the main source of legislation.

Liberal groups are of the view that commitment to Article II of the 1971 constitution is a must as it is one of the texts that guarantee the civil aspect of the state and not to turn it into a theocracy.
