The Maspero Youth Union (MYU) announced a stand of protest on the outside the Syndicate of Journalists headquarters under the rubric No For Devastation Of the State Of Law to condemn excesses against the local residents in al-‘Āmirīyah, western Alexandria, and calls to expel 45 Christian families from the district on Friday.
The MYU indicated that the ‘Āmirīyah incidents started after a 35-year-old man, a married tailor, was accused of having an illegitimate affair with a woman said to be of an ill repute, adding the video allegedly confirming this affair was seen by no one so far.
A number of local residents attempted to assault that man and his family’s house as well as houses of other Copts in the surrounding area, the MY said.
It added that fire was shot by locals and sources of firing were not identified yet, noting after several ‘urfī (conciliatory) sessions, a deal was reached that the man and his family move from the area. [Usāmah Ramadān, Rose al-Yūsuf newspaper, Feb. 2, p. 5]
