Coptic Catholic Father Rafīq Greish, media adviser for the Coptic Catholic Church, revealed that the heads of the three churches – Orthodox, Evangelical and Catholic – are discussing the presentation of a proposal to the commission of experts amending the constitution, commissioned by interim president ‘Adlī Mansūr. Greish said the memorandum could contain proposals from all the churches, or each church could present a separate one expressing its wishes for the to-be-edited constitution. He added that the church’s final position on the matter will be announced next Saturday, July 27, and that so far the Catholic Church did not conceive any memorandum on the topic yet.
Noteworthy, Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II commissioned Bishop Būlā to present the memorandum to presidency. Amīr Ramzī, member of the legal committee of the Coptic Orthodox Church, prepared a draft –to be presented to the Church's legal committee- that includes amending some articles including Article I by adding “Copts' right to be ruled by their legislation”.
Rev. Safwat al-Bayādī, head of the Coptic Evangelical Church, said that the Evangelical Church will not present any proposal to the committee because he has not received any formal request for it yet. (‘Abd al-Wahāb Sha’bān, al-Wafd, July 24, p. 2). The article has no link online.
