Minya has never before witnessed such traffic jams as during Ramadān. This was caused by supporters of the deposed President Morsi (Mursī) closing al-Jumhūrīya Street, a main street which connects the Corniche to Downtown and the train station. The security department closed the Corniche (on which it is situated). Minya’s newly appointed chief of security said that he expected the situation to improve after Eid.  Despite such reassurances from security personnel, the people feel that lawlessness prevails (Hajāj al-Husīnī, al-Ahrām, Aug. 8).
