An investigative report on al-Minya sectarian violence between villagers of al-Hiwārtah, which has a Muslim majority, and Nazlit ‘Ābid, which has a Christian majority, appeared in al-Wafd. Copts in Nazlit ‘Ābid have denounced the death of ‘Abd al- Massīh ‘Ayād Fānūs. Girgis, one of the victims of the sectarian clashes in al-Minya stated that Fānūs was going to his land and was not paying attention to the clashes that were taking place. He stated that about 45 teachers from Hiwārtah work in Nazlit ‘Ābid without any troubles.

Shawqī Bolis, the principle of the preparatory school, stated that there were no acts of violence in the aftermath of June 30 and the churches faced no danger. He added that this clash is not a sectarian one but a disagreement over a piece of land. He however also added that there are good commercial relations between both villages as many in Hiwārtah work in fishing and sell their fish to villagers in Nazlit ‘Ābid (‘Abd al-Wahāb Sha’ban, al-Wafd, Dec. 3, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
