Abū Maqār Church (Saint Macarius Church) in Shubrā al-Khaymah witnessed a new crisis between Copts and Salafists opposed to the construction of a service or ceremonial building, affiliated with the church. Salafist groups have attacked the church and blocked construction workers. A representative from the Salafī political party al-Nūr claims that the land is owned by a Muslim. Father Ayūb Zakī Yūsuf of the church claimed that the Copts are exposed to intimidation from Salafist groups, and that thugs were responsible for the blockade of the church and the expulsion of workers (Khālid Hijāzī, al-Yawm al-Sābi’, Feb. 28, p. 3). Read original text in Arabic.
