Mirvat al-Tallāwī is head of the National Council for Women and one of the fifty members of the committee to amend the 2012 constitution. After originally suggesting 20 names to the president hoping for a one-third female composition, the council received a note back asking this to be narrowed down to two. Her name and that of Tahānī al-Jibālī were put forward, with some irony as to the latter. Jibālī was one of the judges on the Supreme Constitutional Court to lose her job when the 2012 constitution scaled back membership to the eleven most senior justices. But it was Tallāwī selected by the president to serve in the committee, and she related her experiences to Arab-West Report in an interview on December 23, 2013.
