Coptic intellectual and writer Sulaymān Shafīq states that between the year 1990 and the present 230 Egyptian Copts have been killed by terrorist groups for sectarian reasons. According to him only very little cases have been brought to court and in most cases the suspects were acquitted due to lack of evidence. Violence against Copts include the attack on two Coptic-owned pharmacies in Kūm Umbū, SouthEgypt. Furthermore, he states that under former Egyptian president Mubarak 157 Copts were killed. Sectarian violence against Copts is not limited to Egypt, but also occurs outside the Egyptian borders, as is shown by the case of the seven Copts who got killed in Benghazi (Banīghāzī), Libya (Sulaymān Shafīq, al-Sabāh, Mar. 3, p. 10). Read original text in Arabic.
