A recent report published by the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights reporting on the council’s investigation of the Abū Zaʿbal prison is provoking a contentious debate surrounding the use of torture and other human rights abuses in the prison. The report differs from previous reports released about the prison since the June 30^th revolution that downplayed the abuses occurring inside the prison. The recently released report was praised by human rights activists who said that it marked the beginning of a serious effort to monitor the abuses occurring inside the prison.
