Fahmi Howeidi wrote an article in Al-Ahram titled “A Point of Order.”He discussed the issue of renewing the Islamic religious discourse, commenting on the seminar “Scientific Means for Renewing the Religious Discourse,” held by the Cairo Center for Human Rights Studies. Howeidi attacked the seminar and those who participated in it, describing them as “every Tom, Dick and Harry” and saying they were people who did not have the qualifications to discuss such an issue. Helmi Salam, in his capacity as the coordinator of the seminar, refutes the accusations and points made by Howeidi.
