The American University in Cairo (AUC) is believed to marginalize the Coptic Orthodox Church and ignore its ancient history and pure Egyptian identity and nationalism. It is believed to search for a substitute for the Coptic Orthodox Church to replace its viewpoints in some social issues that are related to Egyptian society. It was noticed that persons invited to explain Christian viewpoints in the social seminars organizedby AUC are Protestants. Archpriest Saleeb Matta Saweris stressed that Christianity in Egypt is represented by the Coptic Orthodox Church, especially as it is a national church.
