The Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) on Wednesday (February 29) gave ceremonies to hand out the Samuel Habīb Awards for Distinguished Voluntary Social Work to Dr. Muhammad Ghunaym, the professor of renal surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, al-Mansūrah University and founder of a kidney center there.
Ghunaym has received the award in appreciation of his pioneering role in the treatment of patients with kidney and liver problems as his center contributes to the treatment of more than 120,000 cases of renal failure and transplant of 35,000 livers annually.
The award was also given to Father Būlus Nasīf Ya’qūb of the Coptic Catholic Patriarchate in the Upper Egyptian governorate of al-Menya, for recognition of his role in founding some programs serving families of prisoners and cancer patients as well as providing jobs for persons with special needs, particularly those with speech and hearing defects, in the year 2000 in cooperation with a group of Muslim and Christian young people.
