The Azhar strongly denounces a Zionist officer for kicking the Holy Qur'ān and for abusing a number of Palestinian women who were preserving the Qur'ān in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque or Bayt al-Muqaddas in Jerusalem. The events were part of a series of gross violations against the people and the Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, something that has been ignored by the world.
Shaykh of the Azhar Dr. Ahmad al-Tayyīb stressed that this shameful act offends a billion and a half Muslims and has shocked various parts of the Earth. He emphasised that this kind of behaviour is incompatible with international norms and traditions and with the fundamental principles of human civilisation.
The Azhar has asked Arabic and Islamic nations and the world to take a firm stance against this vicious attack. Additionally, the Azhar has asked international institutions to adopt a legislation that criminalises the abuse of divine religions (Sanā’ Hashīsh, al-Wafd, Mar. 5, p. 2).
