Douglas May is an American Catholic priest who works with CIDT. Between 1984 and 2007, Doug worked for 10 years as a member of the formation-education team at St. Leo the Great Coptic Catholic Seminary located in the Maadi suburb of Cairo, Egypt. Doug reflects on his 23-year friendship with the newly installed Patriarch of the Coptic Catholic Church, Ibrahim Sedrak, who was rector of the seminary for 10 years and Coptic Catholic Bishop of Minya in Upper Egypt for 10 years. Doug describes Patriarch Ibrahim as a man who is warm, compassionate and “down-to-earth” which are positive traits needed by religious leaders regardless of faith or denomination.
