A court in Iran has shut down the reformist newspaper ‘al-Bahār’ for a period of six months, and sentenced its editor-in-chief, S’aīd Būr ‘Azīzī, to 91 days in prison, for publishing an article that it claimed insulted the Imām ‘Alī. The article, written by ‘Alī Asghar Gharavi, was entitled ‘Imām ‘Alī, Political Leader or Religious Model?’, and argued that the religious aspect of‘Alī was more important than the political side, which was construed as a subtle criticism of the current political state in Iran.
