Muhammad Badī’, Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, addressed the court from the prisoner’s dock before the beginning of a session of his trial in Qalyūb. He stated that the Egyptian people had elected Muhammad Mursī, and also said that he was the first Supreme Guide of the Brotherhood to visit the Copts in the Cathedral, as well as meeting Pope Shenouda III. He also questioned those upset by the rāb’ah sign (hand gesture expressing solidarity with those who died after the sit-in, protesting the ousting of Mursī, at rāb’ah Adawiya was violently broken up), claiming that people who had killed were terrified of their crimes (Haytham al-Bar’ī, al-Watan, Mar. 7, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic here.
