The security forces of the Aswan Governorate faced a lot of criticism because they did not intervene to end the conflict between the al-Dābūdīya and the Banī Hilāl families which led to the death of 26 people and the wounding of more than 50. There are committees in the security departments whose task is to stop all conflicts between the families before it comes to deaths. General Fārūq Hamdān, security expert, said that it is obvious that there is blood revenge between the two families. He said that the reasons for this have to be tackled. The reconciliation committees within the security departments should meet together with elders of the two sides to try to address the root of this problem. He also said that is clear that there was a meeting for discussion which turned into fighting that the security apparatus cannot deal with, which made the Governorate call upon the Ministry of Defense for help.Hamdān said that it seems like the security forces do not have enough knowledge about the regional families and their way of dealing with such problems.
General Rifa'at 'Abd al-Hamīd, security expert for al-Tahrīr, said that this is the first time in history that something like this happens in Aswan and called it unfortunate. He added that not only the security forces apparatus but also the elder and wise people and every spiritual father of the Aswan families failed. Furthermore, he said, there will be immediate consequences for everybody who is in power in the region.'Abd al-Hamīd pointed out that it is commonly known that the security forces do not intervene in the beginning, but the elders and Shaykhs do, and only after that the security forces do.(Hāla 'Īd and Ahmad Rajab, al-Tahrīr, Apr. 8, p. 8).
