Professor of Comparative Fiqh (Jurisprudence) at al-Azhar University, Dr. Aḥmad Karīma, spoke about the ethics of war, saying: “War is described in the Qurʾān as repulsive, and God restricted it in the verse: “Thus you may exact retribution from whoever transgresses against you, in proportion to his transgression. Fear Allāh and know that Allāh is with those who are mindful of Him.” (Q 2:194) He pointed out that the verses dedicated to war comprise of 6 verses, while those dedicated to peace comprise of 133 verses.
