Dr. Janneke Stegeman calls for ecumenism with Islam. Good relations with Muslims are very important but one cannot ignore that the existence of Christianity in virtually all Muslim majority countries is under threat. Another problem is that most Muslims do not accept the concept of freedom of religion and thus accept that there are Muslims who want to leave the religion they were born into. Until now there is hardly any indication that the Muslim society in the West distances itself from the thesis that a Muslim cannot give up his or her faith and accepts another faith. This should certainly be a condition before ecumenical cooperation.
