The author discusses the recent constitutional amendments, and the concept of citizenship that has been stressed therein. He looks back in history on the skewed perceptions of citizenship which may have caused the threat posed to freedom and social peace in Egypt today. He further underlines the need for citizenship to be the only point on which to based relations between Egyptians, stating that until such time, problems among Egyptian citizens will continue.
