The life of the Afghan woman has changed considerably over the past few decades. In the past, women had equality, voting rights, and legal protections, polygamy was not permitted, weddings were reserved for girls over the age of 21, and while traditional attire was the norm, some women preferred to dress in short dresses and Western styles. A significant portion of the labor was made up of Afghan women as well. A considerable number were female judges and prosecutors, and attorneys were also employed by universities, private businesses, and airlines. They were also engaged members of the medical community, nurses, and teachers. Others made the artistic and poetic path. This was the Afghan woman.
