Majdī says that the nation goes through three basic citizenship tests during elections. The first of these tests pertains to the way candidates are selected. He says that the NDP failed miserably by selecting only ten Coptic candidates out of its eight hundred, while all opposing parties and the Muslim Brotherhood selected all Copts who applied to run for them. The second test is on means of promotion. The Muslim Brotherhood failed by using the extremely sectarian slogan “Islam is the Answer.” Various members of the NDP also failed by using posters of themselves with religious figures. The biggest surprise, according to Majdī, was Bishop Yūhannā Qultah announcing that all Nasr City Christians endorse National Democratic Party candidate Sāmīh Fahmī.
