The Family Court refused to grant the first ‘detached’ [monsalekh] person from the Orthodox Coptic Church, Anīs ʿAbd al-Masīh, a divorce, and who claims to have taken this step for ideological reasons. He also demanded the issuing of a civil law in regards to Christian personal status so that the Copts can escape from the dominance of the Church. The term ‘detached’ was opposed by Peter Ramsīs al- Najjar, legal advisor and specialist in Christian personal status law who does not see that ‘detachment’ is legal.
