Dialogue Across Borders

Simona (16, Ethiopia), Victoria Jeanpie (18, Congo), and Diana Ressom (19, Eritrea) are students at the CAWU Learning Center for refugees, Leila Elbana (26, Egyptian) is the English teacher at the CAWU Learning Center and Jehan (16) is Simonas’ best friend, she is half-Filipino and half-Egyptian. The group spoke about their experiences in different schools. Many schools have a religious orientation but they prefer a quality school without religious orientation. Fiona Cameron has worked with refugees in the UK and Egypt for over fifteen years. Before returning to the UK in 2012 she was working as Educational Director at St Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) in Cairo and has remained involved with the organization since then as Chair of the Advisory Board.
