The preface to Eildert Mulder and Thomas Milo’s 2009 book ’The Contested Sources of Islam’, where the authors introduce the four German revisionist historians whose theories about early Islamic history could spark a lively debate about the sources of Islam. In this preface, they argue for a need for a critical and academic rereading of 7^th century sources in order to examine the current and unchallenged reading of early Islamic history.
